Flowers at Your Wedding

On any visit to St Mary’s Church (outside the seasons of Advent and Lent, when there are no flowers in church) you will see the building adorned with beautiful flower arrangements.

Flowers for all church weddings and wedding blessings are arranged by our experienced and capable flower team, all of whom are volunteers. The arrangements are fresh for your wedding but then remain in the church to beautify the services for the following week or so. Please note that these flowers must always be left in the church. The charges for flowers cover the cost of flowers and flower arranging supplies. Arrangements do not include candles. For your wedding the church will be decorated in white and cream flower arrangements, however at particular times additional colours will be in place to reflect the seasons of the Church’s year.
  • Easter - white and gold
  • Christmas - greenery and red
  • Harvest - autumn shades
  • Remembrance - red

Arrangements are generally, as a minimum, in the following places in the church:
  • High Altar
  • Chancel Steps (near where the readings are read)
  • Bolton Chapel (where the Registers are signed)
  • Entrance Lobby (where people enter the church)
We have some arrangements of white and cream silk flowers that hang on the end of the pews in the central aisle. These are available on request. There is no charge for the pew end flowers.

The church is not decorated with flowers during Advent and Lent (they are meant to be sober, fasting seasons) but couples may arrange for their own flowers to be put in place. Please speak to the Parish Administrator in advance if this is what you would like to do.
