Services At St Mary's

Therefore, since we are receiving a kingdom that cannot be shaken, let us give thanks, by which we offer to God an acceptable worship with reverence and awe; for indeed our God is a consuming fire.                            ( Hebrews 12)

At St Mary's we seek to create an atmosphere that is at once welcoming and relaxed, whilst doing justice to the awesome majesty of the God whom we worship.

Whilst we keep to the traditional forms of service, we aim to do so in a way that is fresh and unpompous, at once accessible to the newcomer, and nourishing to those with an established and mature faith.

8am Holy Communion

A quiet and simple service with a sermon but no hymns offered in the traditional language of the 1662 Book of Common Prayer. The atmosphere is calm and meditative.

9.30am Sung Eucharist  (10am at Christmas and Easter)

The main parish gathering of the week attracting a wide range of people of all ages and backgrounds. The atmosphere is one of lively and relaxed reverence. There is a robed Choir and hymns.

On feast days incense is used.

Children and families are very welcome. Junior Church provides activites for School-age children, and toys are available in the play area in the North Aisle.

11.15am Family Eucharist  (available only in Term Time)

A very relaxed service in the Bolton Chapel in St Mary's, intended to meet the needs of families who wish to worship together, but who may struggle with a longer service.

The worship and talk are deliberately made accessible to the younger members. Noise, music and fun are all part of the experience.

10am  Holy Eucharist

A simple Eucharist without hymns in the Bolton Chapel.
